Brown Cup Talamban Cebu

Brown Cup Talamban: Nothing’s Better than a Neighborhood Cafe

Waffles, bacon, eggs, and a warm cup of brewed coffee (P120 all in) – I could eat these at any meal of the day thanks to Brown Cup, Talamban. Marry me. I mean, I’m assured of merry mornings having this café close by.

Living so close to San Carlos University Talamban has a lot of perks. Cheap student meals abound. Restaurants for well-to-do kids are aplenty. There are also a dozen cafes around. But it’s not without some drawbacks, of course.

Students hang out wherever there’s good food or decent wi-fi. (Luckily, Brown Cup doesn’t have a wi-fi so fewer students linger here.) It’s not that I don’t want them around. Their presence actually makes me feel like I’m 17 all over again.

But when I’m having my first meal of the day, I want to focus. This old-fashioned fellow just wants to enjoy her food in peace.

Unfortunately, that’s the opposite of  what most of these kids like to do when eating. I don’t know why but they seem to abhor silence  like it’s a disease. Ok, lecture stops here, I swear.

So I was saying, I love Brown Cup minus the occasional rowdy customers.

download_20140607_175014I’ve been hanging out here with Neil or by myself for some time so I’m confident about the best time to visit. My best guess? Morning is the finest time to hit this coffee shop. Kids are still locked in their classrooms. That means, weekends are also a perfect time to pop in and enjoy a cup of cappuccino. (Though I rarely pick that one.)

What about the service, you ask? I’d say homely, efficient, and personalized. (It’s unlike other coffee shops where the staff are busy, rude, and dismissive). Here, they remember our preferences.  They know that Neil wants two tiny packs of brown sugar and that I need no sugar nor creamers.

Now, don’t just take my word for it. Test the place for yourself. We might see each other there – and fight over a chair. Well, I hope the latter won’t happen. 🙂
