Good news, foodie friends! No need to apply for a Schengen visa to sample an authentic French baguette. In all of Cebu, you won’t find better baguettes than the one at Tymad Bistro – a small French-run restaurant along Paseo Saturnino, Banilad, Cebu.
As you know, I’ve celebrated my birthday thrice at this restaurant, but I never really got the chance to savor their baguette. Why? Because this humble bread is considered a common breakfast staple (in France), so it’s not something you’d serve on someone’s special day. It’s like pan de sal for us, Filipinos, except that it’s not sweet.
Anyway, if you like a bite of French baguette that’s crusty and crispy on the outside while soft and airy on the inside, Tymad is open from Tuesdays to Sundays as early as 7 o’clock in the morning.
The best part? Each golden piece of baguette costs only P75. What a bargain, right? I can eat a foot-long baguette in one meal but my doctors advise against it. If you’re pregnant and hoping to avoid gestational diabetes, you have to watch your carbs.
So, instead, I just divide a foot-long baguette by three for an entire day’s supply: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. While the ambiance at Tymad is relaxing and cozy, I prefer to enjoy my breakfast at home. Also, I am able to save on coffee and sides when I just prepare them from home.
Baguettes are so flexible and quite plain. You can eat one with just about anything. I like having one with sunny-side up egg cooked in a small amount of butter with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. That’s breakfast.
For lunch and dinner, any soupy dish can be paired with this.
If you’re tempted to try making your own version of a perfect Baguette, I found a recipe and some instructions online. Head to Food Wishes blog for more details. I can’t guarantee that you can copy Tymad’s baguette if you follow each step, though.
So it’s best to drop by their bistro. Sample their baguette and don’t blame me if you get hooked on it.
Hope you got something out of today’s food tips. Happy eating!
