Review: A Superior Family and Double Room at West Avenue Suites, Quezon City

My fourth sister, Rhikka, was getting married so she needed a hotel near their wedding reception, which was at Kowloon House along West Avenue, Quezon City. Great Eastern Hotel is the nearest property but the 3-star hotel had seen better days. Casa Pura was the next best option we considered yet the hotel was charging us Php 5,000 as entourage fee. Ridiculous? We thought so, too! So we went with West Avenue Suites and we were glad we made this choice.

Here’s what it was like to stay at West Avenue Suites.

IN BRIEF

West Avenue Suites is a new, quality and affordable hotel nestled in the middle of residential and commercial areas in Project 7, Quezon City. The Pros: new spacious non-smoking rooms, trendy rooftop dining area, and an in-house coffee shop (Craft Coffee Revolution). The Cons: breakfast was basic (though the service made up for it).

Address:

West Ave, Project 7, Quezon City, Metro Manila, 1104 | Contact Number: 0977 087 7533

Location

West Avenue Suites is a 10-minute walk from SM North EDSA, 18 minutes away from Trinoma, and a mere 11-minute walk from North Avenue MRT Station. It’s also just a 5-minute drive to Kowloon House – a popular Chinese Restaurant in Quezon City.

Rate

We got a special deal through Zenrooms and booked a double room for ₱ 1,692/night.  We checked in on August 11 and checked out on August 13.  The total charge for our entire stay was ₱ 3,384.00.

Check-in

The hotel had an inviting lobby with high ceiling, comfortable chairs and helpful staff. I booked our room through Zen Rooms and I had no idea what the name of the hotel was. Arriving at midnight, I was worried that I booked a non-existing hotel yet the front-desk lady told me I was at the right place.

She explained that Zen Rooms worked like Agoda and other booking sites. It was a relief (and nonetheless, a learning experience).

The check-in was painless and fast. You’d be asked for the standard P1,000 (fully refundable) deposit  for incidental fees.

The Room

Their superior double room at 30 m² felt enormous.  Upon entering the room, I was surprised to find a spacious storage area for shoes, bags, and other things on the left side and a bathroom with modern shower head on the right side. Styled like an apartment, I found a kitchen sink on the left side with water heater and complimentary bottled water, coffee, creamer and sugar. Just after it was a small sofa for people or bags to sit on. Under it was another storage area for shoes (again).

I was pleased to see that the room was modern, clean and with ample storage areas to place our things. There was a closet beside the bed, which was unseen from the doorway. Inside it was an in-safe box and some hangers for clothes, which I immediately used.Double Room at West Avenue Suites

Across from the bed and next to the balcony was a work desk and a modern office chair. There’s a flat TV located a little above the desk. Our beds were comfortable and spacious enough to accommodate another couple in the room.

My sister’s room was a family suite.

It was huge at 56 m² and had a kitchenette, a living room, and a dining area. As far as I remember, she paid around 9,000 for two nights of stay. The suite had two bedrooms so it can accommodate more than 10 people. My sister’s photographer and make-up artist came the morning of the wedding. They didn’t pay a cent at the reception for dropping by.

Here’s a snap of their room.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is much like the rest of the suites: modern, spacious, and clean. There’s a glass door dividing the toilet and the showers, which for me was a nice touch. The showerhead was high enough for Neil (5’10”) to fit under snugly.  Hot and cold water was available and towels as well as toiletries were provided.

Amenities

West Avenue Suites had one restaurant/bar on the rooftop and a single coffee shop at the lobby. We had our breakfast at 18 West Bistro and Bar, which was open to serve plated rice-based morning meals until 11 am. My nephews and niece approved their meals so perhaps the kids in your group will enjoy the food, too. West Avenue Suites rooftop bar and restaurant

Neil and I, however, were more fond of the coffee shop right at the hotel entrance. Their dessert with ‘ube’ perfectly complemented black coffee. Try it for yourself.

We lingered for some time at their rooftop dining area. It’s a great spot to chill, especially on the morning after a busy event.

The hotel also had a gym, spa, and salon that we didn’t manage to explore during our two-day stay. We were content to stay in the room, even extending for four hours (for P1,000), so we could make the most of our weekend in Quezon City.

Overall Impression

We experienced great service and my sister, Rhikka, looked relaxed on her big day. My sisters also found the hotel a wonderful weekend treat – even the kids didn’t want to leave after staying in the property for two days. It’s the first time that I had a staycation with my family and for that reason, West Avenue Suites is one of the most memorable places for me. Look at the smiles on their faces and you can tell how pleased they were.

The hotel is definitely a dependable option for families and couples looking for a place to crash for special occasions held in Quezon City. Now I can’t help looking forward to another wedding. If a hotel stay is something that any of my bride-to-be sisters wants as a gift, I’d be glad to grant the request.

Bonus Tips:

Allot extra money for your caffeine fix at Craft. Also, if you’re booking through Zen Rooms, it’s the same hotel as ZEN Rooms West Avenue. For your Grab ride from the airport, West Avenue Suites is an easy property to spot. If you can, don’t travel at midnight. Coming from Cebu? Book flights before 7pm, especially on Fridays, as airlines often have delayed service on this day.
